Single card $2.50 (No.30)

Set of 50. Size38 x 76mm. This set was issued with two different backs. One states “Issued by R & J Hill…” at the base of the card whereas the other has “Issued with ‘Gold Flake Honeydew’….” at the base. The latter set is the more rare. The rugby cards in this set are number 5 R W Shaw, 8 R H Guest, 30 W Wooller and 44 H B Toft.
1937-38 Peter Jackson
The Pageant of Kingship

Single card $1.00

Set of 150. Size 39 x 66mm. This set was issued with the inscription “Peter Jackson Ltd” but also with “Peter Jackson (Overseas) Ltd”. The latter set was issued on cardboard stock, and also on paper stick. Card number 77 is entitled ‘The King at Twickenham’ and shows King George VI shaking hands with the players before an England vs Scotland rugby match at Twickenham.

Set of 50. Size 36 x 68mm. Number 41 also exists as an error card. The front of each card is the same however the backs differ. One card is headed ‘A Bailey (Lansdowne and Ireland)’ and contains the text “....we illustrate the Lansdowne colours” whilst the second is headed ‘A Bailey (National University, Lansdowne and Ireland)’ and contains the text “..we illustrate the National University colours”.

Single card $1.00 (52 B Gadney)

Set of 72. Size 70 x 30mm. These oval shaped cards were issued in both England and Ireland, with cards numbered 1-10 being replaced with different personalities in the Irish issue. The front of each card shows a full bleed black and white (with sepia tones) photo of the player with a facsimile autograph. The two cards depicting rugby players are numbers 51 H Lind and 52 B Gadney.

Set of 50. Size 66 x 41mm. There are three different printings of this set, ‘A’ Titled ‘Sports’, numbered front and back, ‘B’ Titled ‘Sports Series’, numbered front only, and ‘C’ Untitled, numbered front only. The latter two sets are the harder to get. This black & white contains two cards that depict rugby action. They are number 24 Clergy v Rugby Referees and number 38 Trial Match New South Wales v Plymouth Albion

Set of 50. Size 36 x 68mm. The front of the cards shows an artist drawn picture of the trophy. The back of the card contains the set title, card number and a brief description of the trophy. Card number 3 depicts the Rugby Challenge Cup and number 47 depicts the Calcutta Cup.

Set of 50. Size 67 x 36mm. The players featured on these cards were drawn by the artist J B Melhuish aka ‘MEL’. The set was reprinted in 1998. Six of the cards depict rugby players and these are listed below. Card number 42 depicts P D B Spence as a tennis player however the reverse of the card also states “…Spence also plays Rugby Football for Guy’s Hospital”.

Set of 50. Size 68 x 36mm. This set, which was printed by Mardon, Son & Hall, includes soccer and rugby clubs and is almost identical to the one issued by Ogdens in 1906. The main difference is that the backs of the Ogdens cards are in blue, rather than brown, and the Ogdens set contains an extra card, number 51. In 1909 the firm of Franklyn, Davey & Co also issued a set of these cards.
